A fascinating natural Fluorite sphere from Kazakhstan, displaying distinct layers of violet, smoky brown, golden and dark mineral-rich zones. The banding records different stages of mineral deposition, giving the sphere an almost geological landscape-like appearance.
Alongside the Fluorite, the material contains sparkling Pyrite and additional mineral inclusions. From the photograph, the brown to ochre layers are consistent with iron-rich minerals/iron oxides, while the darker areas may represent associated sulphides or matrix material. I would avoid naming those more specifically without mineralogical analysis, as they cannot be identified reliably from appearance alone.
Fluorite forms from mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids, and specimens containing contrasting bands and associated minerals can preserve evidence of several successive episodes of crystallisation. The Pyrite adds another interesting component to this mineral assemblage.
